Styles, seventy-four, an educator and maker, grew up in the craft scene created by the craft revival movement and with her grandmother learned to weave and dye not from family members, but at the Southern Highland Guild, founded in 1895 by missionary Frances Goodrich. Craft has woven in and out of my life, positioned in time somewhere between waves of the southern craft revival and just after the counterculture movement.
