- Abstract
Objective: to describe the sociodemographic characteristics of hypertensive patients victims of stroke. Method: a descriptive study of quantitative nature conducted using a questionnaire with 75 patients in a cerebral vascular accident unit of a hospital in Fortaleza/Ceará/Brazil. The data were analyzed descriptively and presented in the table. The research project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee, opinion nº 110302/10. Results: male (61,4%), age > 60 years old (48%), family history of cardiovascular disease (68%), white skin (64%), low education (72%), either married or stable (76%), occupational therapy exercises (44%), family income until one minimum wage (52%). Conclusion: The study generated important information for health professionals to develop better strategies to meet the specific characteristics of this group.
