- Abstract
The article discusses initiatives to reduce heritage crime in England, including damage to historic buildings, architectural thefts, and illegal metal detecting. The author discusses a 2009 study from English Heritage and a 2010 crime assessment from Russ Shoplan of the Kent Police highlighting the need for an approach to heritage crime. The author describes the formation of the Heritage Crime Strategic Tasking and Coordination Group and the Alliance to Reduce Crime Against Heritage (ARCH). Specific topics include the creation of the Heritage Crime Initiative (HCI), multiple sources of protection for cultural heritage in England, and policeman Mark Harrison's work with the Kent Police to address heritage crime.
