- Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the similarities and differences learning-teaching process in the secondary school mathematics textbooks which were used between 1900 and 1940 and today's middle school mathematics textbooks as a result of examining and comparing them. In this context, secondary school mathematics textbooks that have been used between 1900 and 1940 have been analyzed and compared in the light of the developments in today's mathematics education, they have been interpreted by making descriptive analyzes. In this qualitative study, document analysis, which is a frequently used method in historical studies, is used. Deficiencies that may occur when the differences identified in terms of learning - teaching process (such as giving the rules of drawing the edge-edge-angle during the teaching of triangular drawings in the textbooks in the period examined) are not included in today's sources are determined. A variety of teaching styles will be provided by putting today's textbooks similar methods as the multiplication in natural numbers, which are used in addition and multiplication in algebraic expressions that was used in the same period. In addition, as a result of a century of experience, it has been contributed to the continuity of our history of mathematics education by describing the process reached.
