- Abstract
Introduction: Tooth decay is a common disease that is a health and financial problem for many countries. In recent years it has become one of the most common chronic diseases in childhood. Aim: To evaluate the relationship between eating habits and the risk of tooth decay in children attending kindergartens in Plovdiv. Material and methods: An anonymous survey was conducted among 174 parents of children, between 3 and 7 years of age (90 parents of boys and 84 of girls) of kindergartens in Plovdiv. Our own toolkit was used - a questionnaire containing questions related to children's eating habits and consumption of cariogenic and tooth decay protective food. Results: For some of the children night-time eating was stopped too late and there were some that did not stop at all. Children prefer cariesogenic foods, which they take as a snack, dessert or as a reward. A large percentage of children consume sweet fruits, sweetened milk and drinks after dinner. Conclusion: Some children have eating disorders that can be a cause of tooth decay.
