- Abstract
A response is presented to the article "Limits to the Privatization of Fishery Resources" by Colin W. Clark, Gordon R. Munro, and U. Rashid Sumaila (CMS), which appeared in volume 86 of the publication. In that paper CMS contend that a private owner may find the best strategy to be the deliberate wiping out of a fish population. The authors of the present article say this may not in fact be the case. They further believe CMS's paper has helped foster the erroneous notion that incentive-based fisheries management is inconsistent with achieving conservation objectives.
