The article focuses on the use of civil litigation in the U.S. to address human trafficking violations around the world with the U.S. Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008 (TVPRA). It mentions effectiveness of victims seeking accountability through the Alien Torts Statute (ATS) as a means of combatting human rights violations. It also mentions decision of U.S. Supreme Court in the cases such as Sosa v. Alvarez-Machain and Kiobel v. Royal Dutch Petroleum Co.
