- Abstract
The article discusses the effects of pyruvate and sucrose on acetolactate synthase activity (ASL) in Akita, Japan. The acetolactate synthase is targeted by several widely used herbicides that includes sulfonylureas and imidazolinones. The diagnostic method is based on the inhibition of ASL activity by herbicide treatment. A biotype is diagnosed as resistant if ASL-inhibiting herbicides do not inhibit its activity.
