- Abstract
In this work, the social reality of the colonization villages created during the Franco regime is analyzed from a gender perspective. Starting from an approach to the discourses and representations generated around sexual difference in the new rurality of Franco, the town of El Torno (Cadiz, 1942) is taken as a case study. Through the consultation of archival sources and oral history, issues such as the assignment of land lots or the creation of new spaces projected by the National Institute of Colonization are analyzed. The study of housing as a place for the application of social schemes determined by gender allows for the understanding of the contradictions into which the system itself falls. It highlights the importance of women as fundamental economic agents in the new settlements, an issue little or not at all analyzed until now.
