- Abstract
The article examines the Reconstruction period through the Baptist newspaper "Biblical Recorder" in North Carolina used by southerners as a vehicle for reconciliation. Topics include the foundation of the "Biblical Recorder" in 1833 by pastor and writer Thomas Meredith, the desire of "Biblical Recorder" writers to forget and move past the war, and the willingness of southerners to accept defeat emphasized by historian Gaines Foster in his well-known work, "Ghosts of the Confederacy."
