- Abstract
The article discusses the development of Baptist conversion practices throughout the faith's history, focusing on the gradual decline of revivalism and the use of revivals among Baptists. The author explains the importance of social scientific research to an understanding of religious conversion, and examines revivalism as a motif of conversion. A history of Baptist conversions prior to the Second Great Awakening is presented by the author. The role of camp meetings in conversion throughout history is analyzed.
