- Abstract
The article "Poetics and Rhetoric" documents a conversation with Renate Lachmann, a German professor. Lachmann talks about her interest in Slavic studies during her school years in Cologne and her studies in this field. She later focused on Croatian Baroque literature and mentions her encounter with Slavic studies expert Dmitrij Čiževskij. The article also addresses the interest in Slavic studies and the closure of many Slavic institutes. Lachmann talks about her work in the field of rhetoric and emphasizes the importance of comparative work. She mentions various meetings and exchanges with other individuals and discusses her books "Memory and Literature" and "Camp and Literature: Testimonies of the Gulag". She also talks about her new topic, iconoclasm, and expresses a desire for a revival of Slavic studies and student interest in Russian culture.
