- Abstract
An essay is presented on women's exploration of male homoerotic subtexts in boy's love (BL) manga written by women that rework stories from popular shonen manga. In BL manga, male rivalry or friendship are transformed into male-male love stories. Several BL parody manga are analyzed on the assumption that it is one form of women's reaction to the male-centered mainstream media. The author argues that it provides a vehicle for reframing female fans' gendered identities and sexual desires.
