- Abstract
Cluster randomized controlled trials (cRCTs) are multilevel experiments in which groups of study participants who are not constituted at random are randomly assigned to the experimental conditions, and all study participants within that group (i.e., cluster) are intended to receive the treatment that their cluster is allocated to (1,2). Evaluation of the type I error rate when using parametric bootstrap analysis of a cluster randomized controlled trial with binary outcomes and a small number of clusters. Editors and peer reviewers should ensure that cRCTs are reported in compliance with the CONSORT extension for cluster trials (11).
