- Title
France's Diplomatic Relations in West Africa Disintegrate.
- Authors
BAYA, OSBORN
- Abstract
France's diplomatic relations with West African countries, specifically Mali and Niger, have deteriorated as these countries have nullified foundational treaties with France. The dissolution of these agreements, which aimed to establish reciprocal assistance in tax regulation and prevent double taxation, is indicative of a broader disengagement. Additionally, Niger has unilaterally terminated its military agreement with the European Union and has instead initiated defense relations with Russia. This shift in alliances reflects a growing estrangement among West African nations from their former colonizer, France, and a reassessment of the region's geopolitical affiliations.
