- Abstract
The article offers information on a study which determined the risk of suicidal acts and combined suicidal acts or violent death linked with individual anticonvulsants. Data analyzed in the cohort study were from patients 15 years and older included in the HealthCore Integrated Research Database (HIRD) who started taking an anticonvulsant between July 2001 and December 2006. The main outcome measures are cited. A detailed discussion on the research findings is presented. Researchers concluded that the use of anticonvulsants like gabapentin, lamotrigine and oxcarbazepine, among others, may be linked with an increased risk of suicidal acts or violent deaths.
