- Abstract
The article focuses on research which was conducted on diabetes by a team of scientists from Sweden, Finland, China, Japan and the United States. Researchers looked at diabetic rodents and found that dysregulation of a gene that encodes an enzyme involved in lipid metabolism may contribute to hyperglycemia induced insulin resistance in patients with type 2 diabetes. Researchers also found that expression of a fat burning enzyme, diacylglycerol kinase, is reduced in the muscle tissue of patients with type 2 diabetes.
