- Abstract
The aim of this research was to analyse the impact of educational mediation at the "La Cañada" centre on the variables of social skills, emotional development and aggressiveness in juvenile inmates from the point of view of the educational staff in charge of carrying out the mediation. The sample consisted of 46 subjects (male=24 and female=22). The study was qualitative in nature. The results showed that I) with regard to social skills, they consider that the centre has an impact on the children. However, there are other features of social skills, such as the more time the child spends in the institution, the more they deteriorate; II) In reference to positive emotional development, a positive incidence is observed as the time spent in the institution increases; III) Regarding the reduction of aggressive behaviour, the educational staff observes an improvement trend in the children; IV) The children's centre should include essential elements in the intervention programme such as the family context and, in addition, pay more attention to those aggressive profiles. These findings are of special interest for the educational and legal context, as an adequate reintegration of these minors into society will facilitate a more optimal development of the country.
