- Abstract
The article notes the writer George Orwell and his time spent living in the island of Jura in Scotland between 1945 and 1949. Particular focus is given to how Scotland is where he wrote "Nineteen Eighty-Four." Additional topics discussed include Orwell's affinity for adversity, his time spent fighting in the Spanish Civil War and how much of what is known about Orwell's time in Scotland has been taken from his diaries.
