- Abstract
The article looks at hunter and writer Friedrich Gerstäcker's travels in Arkansas during the mid-19th century, with a particular focus on his observations regarding natural history. According to the authors, Gerstäcker recorded the first detailed descriptions of the old-growth bottomland forests in the eastern part of the state. It is suggested that he made unique observations of small birds, mammals, and vegetation.
