- Title
Mozambique issues compulsory license for HIV antiretrovirals.
- Abstract
The HIV/AIDS pandemic constitutes a serious handicap in Mozambique's struggle against hunger, illness, underdevelopment and misery. High rates of morbidity and mortality have put Mozambique among the ten countries in Africa worst hit by HIV. Antiretroviral drugs are available which prolong the lives of those infected with HIV/AIDS. However, such drugs are not accessible at affordable prices to large numbers of the Mozambican population. The compulsory license will expire as soon as conditions of national emergency and extreme urgency created by the HIV/AIDS pandemic have come to an end.
