- Abstract
For some time now, but more clearly since the years 2010, regions are often depicted in Québec literature. Among the precursors of this néoterroir, we may include Abitibi writer Jeanne-Mance Delisle. This article focuses on her collection of short stories Nouvelles d'Abitibi (1991), emblematic of the néoterroir because of its renewal of the terroir's imaginary. The author creates subversive female characters, in opposition to the female figure of le roman de la terre. In order to illustrate how Delisle refuses to repeat the terroir female image, I explore the questioning of the traditional female roles and the women's revolt through sexual desire.
