- Abstract
Museums have traditionally been places of education and therefore the relationship between museums and schools is not surprising. At present, the issue is the innovation of such a relationship and its maximum functional application. The current offer of educational programmes in some museums is wide and ever developing. However, it is known from our "field investigation" that both museums and schools could improve further and their cooperation does not comply with our notion of ideal cooperation. Therefore, our investigation aimed at the forms of cooperation of Czech schools and museums, what museums offer, and what the most pressing problems are. On the other hand, we wanted to know whether teachers visit museums with their pupils and whether they are willing to help museums create programmes for primary school pupils. We also investigated problems related to museum visits. The method of our choice was a questionnaire of our own design. The investigation took place in the period between autumn 2008 and summer 2010. The results proved that communication represented the most serious problem between school and museum. Museums stated that schools should be more engaged whereas teachers required museums to be more active in addressing schools and designing programmes or projects for them.
