- Abstract
The article discusses the uses of "Fathers" in the Rule of Saint Benedict to describe authorities on the regulations of monastic life, including Fathers of the Faith or Church and the models of monasticism. The tradition of patristics in the Early Church is addressed, as well as the aspects of early Christian ethics and baptismal indoctrination in monasticism. The article also considers Saint Benedict's use of the terms "holy" and "Catholic" with Fathers. The difference between Western and Eastern monasticism ideals are also discussed.
