COMPANION ANIMALS: MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY OR LEGALLY DISCARDED OBJECTS?
- Authors
White, Steven
- Abstract
The article explores the duality of relationship with companion animals and the role of law that governs such duality in New South Wales. Accordingly, an opinion survey and a body of sociological literature suggested that the relationship between the family members and companion animals is vested with meaning and significance. In this regard, animal welfare law is enforced to protect the interest of companion animals. In addition, the law provides that abandonment of companion animals is considered criminal act against the law.
