- Title
Natural impregnation of a rock by copper minerals.
- Authors
Hänni, Henry A.
- Abstract
The article presents the result of an examination of a blue-green rock, which was sent by rough stone buyer Werner Spaltenstein to the SSEF Swiss Gemmological Institute for identification. Close observation reveals that the rock has blue portions that are akin to lapis lazuli, while its green patches resemble chrysocolla. Based on microscopic analysis and Raman spectroscopy, the rock contains sodium-rich plagioclase, quartz and muscovite mica. Further analysis shows that the rock's gemological properties of the material are akin to sodic plagioclase and quartz.
