- Abstract
The article describes a 1.30 carat oval-cut, orangy red stone that was sold as andesine from China. The red stone is described as birefringent and biaxial negative, which were consistent with plagioclase fledspar and were closer to those of labradorite than andesine. The sample's chemical composition was measured using a JEOL 5800 scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with a high-resolution Princeton Gamma Tech IMIX-PTS germanium energy-dispersive detector. Abundant parallel empty tubes or channels were revealed by microscopic examination.
