- Abstract
The article presents information on large beryl triplets imitating Colombian emeralds. Five large transparent green emerald cuts was sent to the Dubai Gemstone Laboratory for identification. The owner of these samples had been told that they were good quality emeralds from Colombia. The properties of the samples were consistent with emerald except for the absence of chromium lines in the absorption spectra. Upon observation with diffused transmitted light, the samples showed green-appearing crowns and colorless pavilions which established that they were assemblages. The properties of the samples are similar to those reported for beryl assemblages which have been produced by the firm Kämmerling of Idar-Oberstein, Germany.
