- Title
Venezuela: The Unrecognized Threat.
- Authors
Dickerson, Danny A.
- Abstract
The article reports on the failure of the U.S. government to recognize the threat that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez poses. It cites the assertion of Otto Reich, former U.S. Ambassador to Venezuela, that such threat could be bigger than the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. It discloses that the dependency of the U.S. on overseas oil harms its national security and has made the dollar vulnerable to attack because of trade deficit. It reveals the threatening actions by Venezuela including alliances with Cuba, Russia and Iran, sponsorship of terrorist groups in Latin America, and narcotics.
