- Abstract
The article emphasizes the first half of the twentieth century in Korea as the country faced economic, political and social transformations which changed how Koreans perceived and performed the music of German composer Johann Sebastian Bach. It describes the response of South Korea's capital city Seoul towards Bach's music regarded by Koreans as "modern." It also mentions the development of the recording industry and the broadcasting system which introduced Western music to Korean society.
