Choreographing Perle: An Inter-Disciplinary Interpretation of Perle's String Quartet No. 5.
- Authors
Foley, Gretchen C.; Levine, Susan
- Abstract
An essay is presented on the approach of the American composer and music theorist George Perle's String Quartet no. 5 to choreography. It notes the fundamental tenets of Perle's theory of twelve-tone tonality that has rested on a basis of interval cycles and inversional symmetry. It considers the three primary sections of the sonata form as action-spaces including exposition, development, and recapitulation.
