- Authors
Mancini, Kristina D.; Mandel, Ellen D.
- Abstract
The article offers information on acute otitis media (AOM), which is a common illness that affects children from three to six years of age in the U.S. It states that AOM occurs when the Eustachian tube malfunctions due to inflammatory response to viruses or bacteria. It mentions that its symptom varies with the child's age. Moreover, its diagnosis using pneumatic otoscopy and its treatment with safety-net approach to antibiotic prescriptions (SNAP) are discussed.
