- Title
What condition caused the cyclical decompensation in this child?
- Authors
Deutsch, Tracy M.
- Abstract
The article presents a case study wherein the parents of an 8-week-old male brought the infant to the hospital after noticing him making apparent abnormal hand movements. The patient's physical examination was unremarkable, but an electroencephalogram (EEG) indicated irregular waves in the temporal lobes. The article discusses mitochondrial cytopathy, and emphasizes that the genetic defect in the mitochondria has resulted in a biochemical abnormality that affects metabolism in cells.
