- Abstract
The article discusses maxilliomandibular advancement (MMA) as surgical treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Topics discussed include pathophysiology, prevalence, signs, symptoms and diagnosis of OSA and treatment for OSA using oral appliances, lifestyle modifications and by Phase 2 MMA surgery. Also mentioned is a case study of a 57 year old man with severe OSA with a polysomnography-confirmed apnea-hypopnea index whose condition significantly improved following MMA.
