- Abstract
The article focuses on the petition made by non-profit Centre for Science in the Public Interest to U.S. Food and Drug administration to ban artificial food dyes Yellow 5, Red 50 and 6. The said artificial food colorings are tied in to hyperactivity, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and other related behavioral problems in children. In relation, an action seeking manufacturers to switch to safer colorings and joining with European Union was made by Great Britain's Food Standards Authority. Moreover, the Center for Science in the Public Interest request for congressional hearings on artificial food dyes and funding of an Institute of Medicine research project on dyes. A statement from Centre for Science in the Public Interest executive director Michael Jacobson is also offered.
