- Abstract
The article explores a dispute between the Brotherhood of Timber Workers and the Kirby Lumber Company in East Texas and Grabow, Louisiana in 1911 and 1912. The management practices of lumber and timber companies such as Kirby Lumber Company are discussed including Paternalism, or Welfare Capitalism, blacklisting, and political activity against unionism. Topics discussed including the National Association of Manufacturers of the United States of America (NAM), working conditions at Kirby Lumber Company, and labor law and legislation in Texas.
