- Title
Teaching of Writing in Hong Kong: Where Are We?
- Authors
Lee, Icy
- Abstract
The article offers information on the concerns and challenges on teaching of writing in Hong Kong, China. It discusses that English writing serves a primarily pragmatic purpose—mainly to help students pass examinations and get into university. Typical English as a Foreign Language (EFL) writing classrooms are teacher centered, with a much stronger focus on testing than teaching; and mentions that Hong Kong students' lack of motivation to write in English is well documented in the literature.
