The author comments on a study by Zengerink and van Dijk about a consecutive series of over 1,300 patients who underwent ankle arthroscopy. Based on the study, the author notes that ankle arthroscopy has now become therapeutic instead of only diagnostic in nature. The said report also demonstrated that ankle joint is now considered a major joint. Meanwhile, the historical approach of using routine distraction has become unnecessary and potentially dangerous.
