- Authors
Thompson, Helen
- Abstract
The article focuses on the efforts to restore American chestnut (castanea dentate) in the U.S. forests following its extinction due to chestnut blight. It says that American Chestnut Foundation (ACF) chief scientist Fred Hebard crosses descendants of the American chestnut with Chinese variety to enable resistance against the blight fungus. It says that further research are made for the hybrid chestnuts, which are 94% American and 6% Chinese, to allow them to adapt in other climates.
