- Abstract
The present study aims to follow the evolution of the Austrian (Habsburg) cavalry pistols from the times of the Napoleonic Wars to the Austro-Hungarian Compromise. The combined study of the concerned handguns from the collections of the History and Archaeology Museum of Piatra-Neamț and of some speciality works (historical sources, as well as more recent studies) will result in a comprehensive presentation of the continuous and successive development (sometimes different from those of other European armies) of a weapon type in its later stages: the one-shot, muzzleloader cavalry pistol, as well as depicting the evolution, composition, tactics and efficiency of the Austrian cavalry.
