Faktenprüfungen als vertrauenswürdige Informationsquellen: unvertrautes Vertrauen - vertrautes Misstrauen?
- Authors
Ingold, Albert
- Abstract
The article by Prof. Dr. Albert Ingold examines the classification of fact-checking as a tool of content curation on online platforms. Legal and political framework conditions as well as requirements for the journalistic format are examined. The implementation of fact-checking and the handling of scientific expertise are also considered. The revised "Code of Practice on Disinformation" of the European Commission contains detailed measures to combat disinformation, which have been signed by companies such as Facebook, Google, and Twitter. It is emphasized that trust in fact-checking is based on the examination process and the expertise of the examiners. The legal assessment of fact-checks on Facebook is also discussed. It is pointed out that fact-checks should not serve as a general journalistic quality assessment, but should focus on the examination of factual claims. The effectiveness of fact-checks depends on various factors and may not be effective in certain cases. The question of whether fact-checks should be considered trustworthy sources of information and whether distrust of the media may be more meaningful is also discussed.
