- Abstract
The book "Las virreinas. Women and power in New Spain in the 16th and 17th centuries" by Daniela Pastor Téllez analyzes the presence and identity of the vicereines of New Spain during the 16th and 17th centuries. The author examines the political and administrative reality of the Spanish Monarchy and the viceroyalty of New Spain, and addresses the different stages and characteristics of the vicereines, as well as their participation in public life and their importance in the political and social scene of the viceroyalty. The article highlights the work of Lydia Mangado González from the University of Navarra on the Countess of Galve and the role of the vicereines in the processions of Mexico City in the 17th century.
