- Authors
Collins, Timothy
- Abstract
The article discusses the poetics in the rap music lyrics of the hip hop group Wu Tang Clan, within the context of the French philosopher Jean Baudrillard's theory of simulation. An overview of Baudrillard's theory of the sign-value and the signifer, including the sign value's relationship between exchange value and the commodity in postmodern capitalism, is provided. The use of rhyme in Wu Tang's rap lyrics is discussed.
