The article discusses the difficulty of interpreting the Greek verb akolouthein in the New Testament Gospel of Matthew and its thematic significance. Topics addressed include the possible use of the verb akolouthein to signify accompaniment in a literal sense, the approach to Jesus for discipleship seen by Matthew, and the term's translation as key to a proper understanding of the gospel passage.
