- Abstract
"The intentional addition of a precise amount of fluoride to the water supply is a public health measure that aims to benefit dental health."[1] Water fluoridation has been a long-standing public health intervention first implemented in Australia in 1953.[1] The majority of Australian states have been covered by water fluoridation since its implementation, with the exception of the Northern Territory and Queensland. Prior to Queensland having water fluoridation in 2008, cost-effectiveness evaluations projected there would be saving between $95 and 666 million if water fluoridation was implemented.[[5]] In this study, the cost saving was calculated from the estimated caries prevention and reduction in the use of dental services/treatment.
