- Abstract
As a measure of protection, the placement in family-type accommodation centers is implemented in order to integrate activities for support of children in order to prevent and overcome social exclusion, for empowerment and for improvement of the quality of life. The discussion about the family-type accommodation centers is controversial as it is very difficult to justify the effectiveness of the social service and its place in the system of protection of children at risk. The main criticism is that the social service can hardly provide personalized support, especially for children with specific needs or with traumatic experience, and sometimes placement stays long-term and unfortunately remains the only life alternative until the age of majority. On the other hand, however, the main advantage of the social service is the availability of resources and various forms of psychoemotional and social support for children. For the purposes of this analysis, between March and April 2019, a semi-structured interview was conducted with 35 specialists working as social workers, educators, assistant educators and child carers in family-type residential accommodation for children without disabilities. Тhe main emphasis of the questions was put on the specific difficulties which the interviewed professionals face in their work with children. The main areas of concern that emerged in the analysis are the issues referring school, family life, as well as the social contacts and personal relationships of the children. In the report, the possible directions for social work and psychosocial interventions for dealing with children and addressing the emerging major difficulties are also commented.
