- Abstract
In this article, the authors argue that the role of the gerontological clinical nurse specialist is relevant to support the families and careers of older people with learning disabilities in Ireland. It cites the challenges posed by the aging population of learning disabled. The specific health needs of people with learning disabilities are cited, along with a historical perspective on the care of the learning disabled. In addition, the article explains the role of specialists and gerontologists in caring for the aging learning disabled.
