The article focuses on a study regrdaing contrasting effects of two mammalian soil engineers on microbial communities in Australia. It mentions that vertebrate species like greater bilby (Macrotis lagotis) and burrowing bettong (Bettongia penicillata) that dig in the soil by burrowing, foraging for insect larvae or excavating seed caches. It also mentions that soil-digging marsupial that has an extensive continental distribution because it is less susceptible to predation.
