- Authors
de Villiers, M. P.; White, D.
- Abstract
The article discusses the near-surface winds and wind shear forecasts of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) numerical weather prediction (NWP) model issued to four airports during the St. Jude's Day storm on October 28, 2013 including Amsterdam (EHAM), London Heathrow (EGLL), and Paris (LFPG). Topics include the importance of the 3000ft winds to air traffic controllers, the progress of the storm, and the efficacy of the model in predicting the impending strong winds and wind shear.
