- Authors
Lewis, Anton
- Abstract
This article explores the rollback of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts in various sectors of U.S. business, with a focus on accounting. The interviewee, Jina Etienne, discusses the backlash against DEI, attributing it to an increase in racial consciousness and political toxicity. Etienne also highlights the challenges faced by Black women professionals in the accounting industry, including pressure to conform to white male leadership's definition of authenticity. The article emphasizes the importance of visibility and representation for progress in DEI, and calls for systemic change in the accounting industry to address funding disparities and create inclusive environments. It also suggests strategies such as self-care, support networks, and amplification of voices for Black women professionals.
